Alberta’s regulated online gaming market opened on July 13, 2026. This makes Alberta the second province in Canada to run a regulated, multi-operator online gaming system.
Ontario was the first province to launch a similar market back in 2022. Alberta’s opening follows that model and creates new rules for companies operating in the space.
Three companies confirmed their entry into Alberta on launch day. They are Altenar, Pragmatic Play and Tonybet.
Companies Confirm Alberta Entry
Altenar is a sportsbook technology provider. The company said it received approval from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission, known as the AGLC.
Altenar said its platform can be customized for different operators. The company also pointed to its experience meeting regulatory requirements in other markets.
Matthew Ferrara, Sales Manager at Altenar, said the launch is an important moment for the Canadian industry. He said regulation gives players access to safer and more transparent betting environments.
Pragmatic Play also announced its entry into Alberta. The company supplies slot games and live casino content.
Its certified content for Alberta includes slot titles Fury of Anubis and Big Bass Blast. The Gates of Olympus series is also included, along with live dealer games like blackjack, baccarat and roulette.
Sharon McHugh, Director of PR at Pragmatic Play, said the company is building on momentum from its Ontario operations. She said Alberta adds to the company’s long-term plans in Canada.
Tonybet Secures Licence and Prepares Launch
Tonybet confirmed it received an iGaming licence from the AGLC. The company is already licensed in Ontario and Kahnawake.
Tonybet said it is working on several steps before going live in Alberta. These include localizing its platform and connecting to the province’s centralized self-exclusion system.
The company is also completing commercial onboarding with the Alberta iGaming Corporation, known as the AiGC.
Dmitry Arabuli, CEO of Tonybet, commented on the licence. He said Alberta’s approach puts player protection at the center of the market from the start.
Arabuli also referenced the company’s results in Ontario. He said registrations and gross gaming revenue in that province both grew by 52% in 2025.
Arabuli said Tonybet plans to be fully operational in Alberta. He linked this goal to the company’s compliance record in its existing markets.
The launch gives Alberta residents access to licensed online sportsbooks and casino games for the first time under this framework. Players in the province will now interact with operators working under AGLC oversight.
More companies are expected to apply for licences and enter the Alberta market in the coming months. This would add to the group of operators and suppliers already active on launch day.
