Media Troopers has shared early results from Alberta’s new regulated online gambling market. The company said the first week of operations showed strong engagement.
Alberta opened its competitive regulated market on July 13. This made it the second province in Canada to launch this kind of framework, after Ontario did so in 2022.
The new market gives operators and suppliers fresh ways to grow. Companies can now use regulated and locally focused marketing to reach customers.
Media Troopers called the Alberta launch an important step for the business and its partners.
Early Campaigns Show Strong Engagement
During the opening week, Media Troopers ran marketing campaigns for six partner operators. The company said engagement rose across several categories.
First-time player registrations went up. First-time depositors increased as well.
The company is rolling out its plans in phases. It is adjusting its advertising channels and campaigns as new performance data comes in.
Media Troopers is also bringing on nine more operator partners. This is part of its wider plan to grow in Alberta.
CEO Shmulik Segal spoke about the phased approach. He said it lets the company keep improving campaigns while adjusting to a newly regulated market.
Comparing Alberta to Ontario’s Growth
Media Troopers pointed to its experience in Ontario as a guide for what could happen in Alberta. The company believes Alberta has strong potential because of its population size and income levels.
Figures from iGaming Ontario show how much that market has grown. Total wagers reached $82.7 billion during the 2024–25 fiscal year.
Gaming revenue in Ontario climbed to $2.9 billion. That is a 31% increase from the year before.
Total wagers were also up, rising 32% year over year.
Segal said the timing of Alberta’s launch played a role in early results. The market opened as the FIFA World Cup was reaching its final stages, which helped drive activity.
He said that early interest is one thing, but keeping that growth going will be the real test. He added that maintaining momentum beyond the initial surge will show whether the launch succeeds over time.
Media Troopers plans to keep refining its campaigns as more operator partners join the Alberta market in the coming months.
