- Monthly visits rose to 136.9 million in June and July, then fell to 87.4 million in August and September.
- Third quarter visits reached 309.4 million, up 37.2% from 2025, with July making up 44% of the total.

- Lawmakers proposed raising the tax on online gambling and remote sports betting to 5% in October 2026.
Sports betting websites in Peru saw a large jump in visits during the FIFA World Cup 2026. Most of those extra visitors left once the tournament ended.
That is the main finding of a study by Apuesta Legal Perú. It found that only 7% of the extra visits seen during the World Cup remained after the final.
The study tracked betting website traffic from January 2025 to September 2026.
World Cup Lifted Visits and Wagers
Average monthly visits to betting websites rose to 136.9 million in June and July. Before the tournament, from January to May, the monthly average was 83.6 million.
Traffic fell to 87.4 million per month in August and September. That level is close to the pre-tournament average.
Even with the drop, Peru’s betting market recorded 309.4 million visits in the third quarter of 2026. That is 37.2% higher than the same period in 2025. July alone made up 44% of the quarter’s visits.
Money wagered also grew, but by a smaller amount than traffic. Data from the Central Reserve Bank of Peru shows taxable wagers averaged PEN 4.17 billion per month in June and July. That was 17% higher than the previous three months, while platform visits rose 65% in the same period.
July was the sector’s strongest month of 2026. Wagers reached about PEN 4.4 billion, and operators earned PEN 456 million in net gaming revenue. Net gaming revenue is the portion of wagers not paid out as prizes.
The government also collected more money. In August, when July’s taxes were paid, it received PEN 44.2 million from the Selective Consumption Tax (ISC). It also collected PEN 53.6 million from the tax on online games and remote sports betting.
Top Operators Gain Larger Share
The study found that traffic is moving toward the largest betting companies. In September, the three most visited operators held a combined 65% of all visits.
That is the highest share recorded since Apuesta Legal began its analysis in January 2025.
The market leader’s share of traffic rose from 27% to 36% in the third quarter.
The five biggest companies’ share of total wagers stayed near 75%. According to the study, this shows traffic is mainly shifting among the operators competing for the top spots.
The study did not make any predictions for the rest of 2026.
In October 2026, lawmaker Luis Aurelio Masco Cáceres and other lawmakers proposed raising the ISC rate on online gambling and remote sports betting to 5%.
The proposal estimates yearly tax revenue could rise from PEN 324 million to PEN 1.62 billion. These figures are estimates, not commitments from the bill’s sponsors.
The lawmakers say the plan aims to raise public revenue, protect young people and help prevent problem gambling. The change would not create a new tax or alter the tax base.
