Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan has sparked fresh talk about a possible cryptocurrency token. He spoke about an onchain asset at the TOKEN2049 conference in Singapore on October 7.

Polymarket Token Talk Returns at TOKEN2049
Coplan appeared in a fireside chat with Balaji Srinivasan. He discussed an asset with “real programmable utility” linked to the platform’s economy.
He compared the idea to an ideal form of stock ownership, according to accounts of the talk. He did not name any ownership rights, revenue sharing or voting privileges tied to the asset.
Interest had been building before the event. In early October, Coplan replied to a social media post comparing Polymarket’s revenue with the value of Hyperliquid’s token, hinting he might discuss the topic in Singapore.
No token was introduced during the conference, which ran October 7 and 8. Speculation about a Polymarket token and airdrop first drew wide attention in October 2025.
Polymarket has not announced a token name, ticker, total supply or contract address. No snapshot date or eligibility rules have been published.
The company has registered trademarks tied to the POLY name, according to earlier reports. Trademark filings do not mean a token exists or that a distribution plan has been approved.
Polymarket Funding and U.S. Operations
Polymarket has raised large sums through traditional equity deals. In October 2025, Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, agreed to invest up to $2 billion at a pre-investment valuation of about $8 billion.
The deal included plans to share Polymarket’s event data with institutional clients. The two firms also agreed to explore future tokenization projects.
In March 2026, Intercontinental Exchange completed a $600 million investment as part of that commitment. Reports in April put Polymarket’s valuation near $15 billion.
In August, reports said the company was seeking about $1 billion at a valuation above $20 billion. The company did not confirm those terms. An IPO has also been mentioned in reports, but no filing has been announced.
In the U.S., Polymarket operates through QCX LLC, known as Polymarket US. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission designated it as a contract market on July 9, 2025, after Polymarket acquired QCEX.
U.S. residents cannot trade on the international website. They must use the separate Polymarket US app, which has its own accounts and customer support.
In April 2026, the regulator recorded amendments to the Polymarket US rulebook. It remains unclear how any future token would work with either platform or whether U.S. users would qualify.
As of October 14, Polymarket has not confirmed a token generation event or airdrop. Its published documentation does not describe a token distribution program for either service.
