Sands China has been named to the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices for the sixth year in a row. The company announced the update this week.
This marks the fifth straight year Sands China has appeared on the Dow Jones Best-in-Class World Index. It also marks the sixth straight year on the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Asia Pacific Index.
Dual Index Recognition
Sands China said this makes it the only integrated resort operator in the world to appear on both indices at the same time. The company highlighted this as a key part of the announcement.
The Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices began in 1999. They are widely used as a benchmark for corporate sustainability performance.
S&P Global compiles the indices each year. The process includes a review of more than 12,000 companies across many industries worldwide.
Sands China linked its placement to three areas it calls its core focus. These are People, Community, and Planet.
Selection Process and Global Comparison
Sands China said 16 integrated resort operators were invited to take part in this year’s review. Only Sands China and its parent company were chosen for the World Index.
The company also said it was one of just two integrated resort operators to make the Asia Pacific Index. This kept its group among a small number of operators that met this year’s standard.
Its parent company also had a strong showing. Las Vegas Sands was named to the World and North America indices for the seventh year in a row.
Sands China said this shows the wider group’s approach to sustainability management continues to be recognized internationally.
Grant Chum Kwan Lock, chief executive of Sands China, commented on the news. He said the company was honored to be listed on both the World and Asia Pacific indices again.
He said the result confirms Sands China’s position as the only integrated resort operator to achieve this dual listing. He called it an encouraging endorsement of the company’s sustainability work.
This is not the first sustainability recognition for Sands China this year. In June, the company was named to the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook for the fourth consecutive year.
That placement put Sands China in the top 1% for both the Global and China editions of the yearbook. The two announcements together add to the company’s recent run of sustainability recognition.
With six years on the Asia Pacific Index and five years on the World Index, Sands China has kept a consistent presence on these benchmarks. The company’s most recent update confirms its parent group also holds spots on multiple regional and global sustainability indices.
