The UK Gambling Commission has suspended the operating licences of BresBet Ltd and Bet St George Ltd. The regulator cited suspected failures in social responsibility and anti-money laundering controls.
Both companies are now under formal review under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005. The suspension took effect right away.
BresBet runs the website bresbet.com. Bet St George operates betstgeorge.com.
The suspension will stay in place until the Commission is satisfied that both businesses meet compliance standards. No timeline has been given for when that review will end.
Bet St George was founded in Sheffield in June 2025. It launched its gambling site in March 2026.
BresBet was also founded in Sheffield, in March 2021. The company has sponsored horse racing and greyhound racing events.
BresBet secured remote operating permissions in February 2025. It confirmed the suspension in a post on X last Friday.
The company said it is “currently temporarily unavailable” while it works through the matter. It promised further updates when appropriate.
What Happens During the Suspension
Betting activity is paused for both operators while the review continues. Customers cannot place new bets during this time.
Account access remains open for both platforms. Users can still log in and check their balances.
Withdrawals are also allowed during the suspension. Both companies said they will keep customers informed through their websites.
The Commission has directed both operators to treat customers fairly. This includes clear communication about any changes that affect them.
A Wider Pattern of Enforcement
The suspension of BresBet and Bet St George follows a string of enforcement actions by the Gambling Commission this year. QuinnBet Limited was recently ordered to pay £609,104 after investigators found anti-money laundering and social responsibility failures.
Holland Park Leisure Limited was fined £150,000 this month. The company runs adult gaming centres and broke self-exclusion rules meant to protect vulnerable players.
Larger operators have also faced penalties. Evolution Malta Holding Limited was fined £4.75 million in July for supplying online games to unlicensed businesses.
Petfred Limited, which operates Betfred, was fined £900,000 in June for social responsibility breaches. Stakelogic BV paid £122,835 after its slot games were found to run too fast, breaking product design rules.
The Commission has not said when its review of BresBet and Bet St George will be complete. Both companies remain suspended as the investigation continues.
