TLDR
- Prime Minister Hun Manet has ordered provincial authorities to continue targeting online fraud networks across Cambodia
- Deputy PM Aun Pornmoniroth directed all casinos to undergo licensing inspections
- Casinos linked to fraud or illegal activity face licence revocation
- Over 500 scam locations were targeted between early 2025 and June 22, 2026
- 25 casino licences have been revoked or suspended as part of the cleanup
Cambodia’s government is pressing ahead with a dual crackdown on online fraud and unlicensed casinos, with senior officials ordering fresh inspections and warning of licence revocations.
Prime Minister Hun Manet called on provincial authorities to keep up pressure on online fraud networks. He said the crackdown is necessary to protect investor confidence and Cambodia’s international reputation.
The remarks were reported Friday by Cambodia China Times, a local Chinese-language outlet.
Casino Inspections Ordered
Deputy Prime Minister Aun Pornmoniroth, who also serves as economy and finance minister, directed government departments to carry out full inspections of all casinos in the country.
The inspections are focused on verifying whether casinos hold valid licences. Pornmoniroth warned that any casino found connected to fraud or other illegal activities could lose its licence.
He also chairs the Commercial Gambling Management Commission, the country’s gaming regulator, giving him direct oversight of the process.
500 Scam Locations Targeted
State-run news agency Agence Kampuchea Presse reported that authorities had targeted more than 500 scam locations nationwide between early 2025 and June 22, 2026.
The figures come from the Commission for Combating Online Scams.
The same report confirmed that 25 casino licences had been revoked or suspended in connection with the enforcement actions.
The numbers show the campaign is running across multiple fronts at once, covering both fraud networks and the licensed gaming sector.
The government’s message is that casino licensing checks and fraud enforcement are being handled together, not separately.
Hun Manet framed the effort as part of a wider push to strengthen Cambodia’s image and keep the country’s business environment stable.
Political Context
The latest comments came while former Prime Minister Hun Sen, father of Hun Manet, was in China on an official goodwill visit from Thursday to Saturday.
Chinese state media Xinhua reported that Hun Sen held talks with President Xi Jinping and other senior officials during the trip.
The visit was not directly linked to the casino cleanup, but it took place during a period of active enforcement activity at home.
Two-Track Campaign
The campaign is running on two parallel tracks. One targets scam operations and fraud rings directly. The other focuses on casinos and their licensing status.
Provincial authorities have been told to keep the pressure on. The government has made clear that enforcement will continue.
As of late June 2026, 25 casino licences have been pulled and hundreds of scam sites have been closed. The government has not indicated any plans to slow the pace of action.
