Andrew Tan’s casino business has moved into the Philippines’ growing online gambling space. Travellers International Hotel Group, the company behind Newport World Resorts, has launched a new mobile platform called NWR Play.
The app brings the casino’s floor games onto smartphones. It is designed for players who want to access Newport’s gaming offering without visiting the physical resort.
Newport World Resorts sits across from Manila’s main international airport. The complex includes casinos, hotels, shopping areas, and entertainment venues.
How the Platform Works
PhilWeb Corp is handling the technology behind NWR Play. The company’s role goes beyond simply building the app.
PhilWeb will manage cloud infrastructure for the platform. It will also handle regulatory compliance and customer support for users.
The company is also adding artificial intelligence tools to the platform. These systems are meant to detect fraud and monitor security across the app.
PhilWeb confirmed that NWR Play will carry games from Pragmatic Play. This comes through an exclusive nationwide distribution deal that PhilWeb already holds.
The addition of Pragmatic Play titles is expected to expand the platform’s game catalogue. Operators in the Philippines are competing to keep players engaged as more digital casinos enter the market.
Regulatory Backdrop and Industry Shift
The launch fits into a broader shift in the Philippine gambling sector. The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp, known as Pagcor, oversees rules for online gaming in the country.
Changes to those rules have encouraged more casino brands to build digital platforms. Many operators are now running online businesses alongside their traditional gaming floors.
For Newport World Resorts, this launch marks one of the first major initiatives under its new leadership. Nilo Thaddeus Rodriguez took over as President and Chief Executive Officer of the resort.
PhilWeb described the NWR Play launch as part of its expanding business-to-business technology network. The company already provides digital gaming infrastructure to other large resorts in the country.
Those existing partners include Okada Manila, Hann Casino Resort, and NUSTAR Resort and Casino. Newport now joins that group of operators using PhilWeb’s technology.
With Newport added to its client list, PhilWeb has expanded its footprint across some of the country’s biggest integrated resorts. Competition among these operators is increasingly playing out on mobile apps rather than just casino floors.
The Philippines’ regulated online gambling market continues to draw new investment from established casino brands. NWR Play represents the latest example of a traditional resort operator extending its business into digital gaming.
